The Gallery was born out of love for the paintings of Fred Arends, as well as the family relationship we have with the Arends family. We would like to share his work with enthusiasts and therefore gladly make our space and time available to exhibit his work.

Fred Arends

Fred Arends was born in 1949. In 1966 he began his studies at the art academy in Arnhem, The Netherlands. His artistic qualities soon became apparent, and gradually he developed and refined his technique.

Like many 19th century painters, Arends was inspired by 17th century masters and their techniques. Arends was also fascinated by the great Dutch Masters of the 19th century.  Extensive studies encouraged Arends to translate these Dutch-Romantic paintings into a contemporary version.

After more than 50 years his work still finds its way to private collections in Europe, The United States and The Caribbean.

Nowadays Fred Arends resides in the colorful country of Curaçao, where he is inspired by the beautiful aspects of the island. He still uses his unique and authentic technique and captures his surroundings beautifully in his work.

Today, he paints still lifes, landscapes, vistas of Curacao, as well as detailed paintings that beautifully portray the island’s character.

Memories

As a small child I always thought it was normal what my father could do. I was in his studio finger painting my own work while he worked on his paintings or restored exclusive works of grand masters and priceless value. As I got older I realized how special his abilities are. For example, a tiny dot on his canvas magically turned into a man on skates with a red scarf and gloves. It still amazes me. I am very proud to say this remarkably talented artist is my father. I hope that people will always enjoy his beautiful paintings.
